The A 2060 compander compresses and expands the signal from compact discs, hi-fi video, or any source with a wide dynamic range to a format suitable for public address and commercial sound systems. The compander maintains a consistent output level during CD playback to eliminate constant adjustment of volume levels from quiet tracks to louder tracks on the disc. Quiet passages are lifted (expanded) in volume and loud tracks are compressed. The A 2060 also includes a microphone preamp to enable a paging microphone to be used in conjunction with the compander. Companders are used widely in applications such as shopping centres, bars and cafes, and installations which have a moderate to high level of background noise.
